Kyrgyz Portraits: Ak-Sakal

“Ak-Sakal”, in Kyrgyz, means “white beard,” and in a society that associates respect and wisdom with age, it’s one of the highest titles a Kyrgyz man can achieve.

This is also the most Kyrgyz man I have ever seen. He giggled at the thought of Britta marrying the son of the owner of this yurt and drank three bowls of kymyz like it was water.
